Island Spirit 2012

My first installement of a blog will be about one of the latest events we recently attended...

Island Spirit 2012 Mega Event.

This event took place at the Cowichan Valley Exhibition Grounds just north of Duncan, BC.
This was no ordinary Geo Event, this was classified as a MEGA event, which means there is more than 500 people attending from all corners of the world. We had people from all across Canada, the U.S., Japan, The Netherlands, and other places from around the world.

We had a great time at the Mega, although we did not have much time to see and do everything. We were on the helping side of the fence. By we, of course, I am referring to my sweetheart and partner in caching, Angelcheeks(Jenna)

I was also one of the many sponsors for this great event. Besides sponsoring, we also helped as much as we possibly could including organizing and hosting a smaller satellite event the day before the main event, helping set up sound systems, doing two magic shows, and generally anything else that had to be done so others could enjoy the day. My wife(Angelcheeks) took control of the kids pavilion which was a huge undertaking for her considering she was 8 3/4 months pregnant. Luckily she had a lot of awesome volunteers to help her keep the children busy and entertained.

What's really great about an event like this with about 750 people in attendance, with quite a few camping on site as well as it was spread over a 4 day period filled with other smaller satellite events happening the days before and the day after the main event, is the fact that there was no security of any sort needed for this. Not too many other events of this size can boast about that.
The events kicked off on Thursday with a Hiking event, Friday was a busy day with a Tubing event, Pre-registration event, and a Night caching event. Saturday was the Main Mega event which was filled with all kinds of stuff for all ages to enjoy, including games, mini events, info seminars, challenges, vendors, an awesome supper, and entertainment.  In the evening there was another satellite event involving geocoins. The following day(Sun) the last two events took place including a breakfast event and a C.I.T.O. event.
Many new friendships were created here with people that you may not see again until the next event or the next Mega. It was a fun and safe event that will be talked about for years to come. Thanx to everyone who attended and made this a special weekend!!!
